Online Directory FAQ:

 

 

How do I change my information in the online phonebook?

Students:

  • Can change all of their contact information via OASIS. Specifically, under Student Records --> Change Address Information
  • Can also restrict their directory information by contacting the Registrar's Office and enabling a FERPA Restriction.

Faculty/Staff:

  • Can change their verified e-mail address by going to http://www.emailinfo.uga.edu/ and following the instructions there.
  • Can contact the person in their department responsible for personnel records to have other contact information changed. This is typically their office secretary who will send the personnel report to Human Resources. This process can take a couple of weeks. Eventually the online directory will be updated.
  • To change the contact information on the online directory immediately, submit a ticket and describe what you need changed. After this, you will still need to contact your office manager and have the personnel report sent to Human Resources so that the information stays updated.

 

 

How do I restrict my information in the online phonebook?

Faculty/Staff:

  • Can restrict their e-mail address by going to http://www.emailinfo.uga.edu/ and following the instructions there.
  • For Faculty & Staff, restricting the rest of your information in the online directory is an all-or-nothing affair. You have the option of restricting directory information completely or leaving everything viewable to the public.
  • If a Faculty/Staff member would like to enable this restriction- you'll need to submit a ticket to the Help Desk or call us at 542-3106.

Students:

  • This includes Graduate Students. You can restrict contact information via OASIS. Specifically, under Student Records --> Change Address Information --> Restrict Information.
  • This is also known as a FERPA restriction, which can have serious consequences. Read more below:

 

 

What is a FERPA restriction?

A FERPA restriction is a privacy option. Details about FERPA can be found at:

Basically, FERPA has the following repercussions:

  • It removes all evidence of the individual from the online directory
  • It removes all evidence of the individual from the printed directory.
  • It removes the individual from any/all UGA press releases (this includes things like the published Dean's List)
  • It removes the individual from any/all Commencement Lists
  • If any third party contacts UGA to confirm information about a student (even legitimate ones like credit card companies or prospective employers), UGA will tell them that there is no information on an individual by that name in the system.
